It’s a great idea to poll the politicians!

However, be careful of interpretation of the results: because someone is ‘not in favour’ of something, does not necessarily mean they are definitely ‘opposed to’.

Thanks, Michelle. The majority of answers we received while polling were "no, I am not in favour of introducing mandatory Covid vaccination in Ireland." Some said this extremely vehemently and some were more qualified in their answers, but we would believe this to be in line with the dictionary definition of "oppose" being to disagree with or be resistant to something. Language use and precision of language is very important to us here at Tripe + Drisheen!

But for example: “I’m not in favour of milk in tea but I’m not opposed to it”.

I suspect that many of your responders may not be ‘in favour’ of mandatory vaccination but would do little or nothing to actively oppose it, particularly if they were expected to vote on party lines.

I’d like to see their answers if the question was ‘would you VOTE for/against mandatory vaccination’ - though you’d probably have fewer responses to the poll …
