Given how all this has come to pass, it seems only fitting that we rename it Pairc Proinsias Ó Murchú.

This thing drove people totally insane, I can’t quite believe it. The family have no comment to make on the matter. Their legacy is more than a stadium I am lead to believe. The Examiner and a few others had a field day with this given the media ban from the meeting and that was fun to watch!

Direct quote from the CEO of Cork Hurling from RTÉ today.

“It shows that it was discussed in many households across the country over the last 24 hours. That shows you the interest we have in our games, in our brand, in our family, in our 140 years of history. That's a serious commercial revenue stream that we feel we can maximise in the future.”

The GAA was founded to be a cultural organisation to further our sports, language and culture. Cork GAA are admitting that rather than nurture and grow what's been done up to now, they just want to convert it into a "revenue stream".

The GAA is more than just a business. They are losing sight of that. And it will hurt them as it's a real differentiator between it and other sports that people could participate in or bring their kids to.

To be fair I didn't hear the interview. I transcribed the quote from an Irish Examiner article. It's the take I got having read the article.
