River rescue at South Gate Bridge
Emergency services winched a young male with injuries to safety on Monday morning.
Three units of Cork Fire Brigade were called to the South Gate Bridge on Monday morning when a male jumped into the river.
Emergency services were able to winch the male, who sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries in the fall, to safety on a stretcher as a crowd of onlookers gathered.
The young man has a history of psychiatric conditions, according to a family member who was with him when he suddenly jumped with no warning.
He was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital for treatment.
