The legendary site-specific theatre company that launched Cillian Murphy's acting career has called it a day after 31 years of producing theatre.
Cork theatre company Corcadorca, known for their critically acclaimed site-specific theatre, have today announced that they are folding.
The company celebrated 30 years in 2021.
Founded in 1991, their break-out success was their famed production of Enda Walsh’s Disco Pigs, which launched the career of actor Cillian Murphy.
The company has decided not to apply for Arts Council funding for the coming year and is “winding down its operations,” according to a statement released by their PR company this morning.
“Corcadorca Theatre Company has, with great regret, taken the decision to close its doors following three decades of making great theatre in unusual locations and fostering Irish writing, acting, and production talent,” the statement said.
No reason for the decision was given in the brief statement.
As well as its early Disco Pigs success, Corcadorca found critical acclaim with A Midsummer Night's Dream in Fitzgerald Park, The Merchant of Venice for Cork 2005 City of Culture, Far Away on Spike Island and The Trial of Jesus in Bell’s Field at the top of Patrick’s Hill.

Artistic Director and founder Pat Kiernan said he was “particularly proud that we were part of the cultural fabric of Cork city” and that he would continue to work in theatre and “carry on the company’s legacy” into the future.
